2018

2018 is officially well underway. It’s the start of the first full week of work.

How are those resolutions coming?

The most common new years resolutions that I encounter in my job are the obvious ones

  1. Lose weight
  2. Give up *insert food here*
  3. Join the gym
  4. Tone up

These are good places to start but they’re not enough to help you achieve the results that you want

5 tips to help you with your resolutions

5 tips to help you with your resolutions;

1. Be clear on your goal.

“I want to lose weight”

How much weight?
Is this a reasonable amount of weight?
Do you have a timeframe in mind?

and most importantly

Why do you want to lose weight?

^^^ if you don’t know the answers to these questions, go back to the drawing board and do the thing properly.

2. Don’t rush it

Once you have an end point in mind, ask yourself how you can best reach this. Yes you could lose weight by starving yourself but is that really sustainable?

Becoming more active, starting a healthy eating plan and taking it one day at a time with a weight loss of 4lbs a month might seem boring and tedious, but this is easier to keep up than a daily gruelling 6am bootcamp that you hate (for example.)

Create a plan that you can follow consistently, every day for the next 357 days.

And be honest with yourself here!!!

3. Mark your progress to stay accountable.

Write down your starting point. For weight loss this means one thing…

Measurements.

If you really can’t face taking measurements in numbers then do progress pictures. Front, side and back will do. Repeat these every month and chart your progress.

Measurements and images do not lie. This is a black and white record of how you’re doing.

This will keep you on track.

4. Keep it in mind all the time.

To reach a goal you need to work on it every day. Some days there will be more work than others, that’s normal and that’s perfectly ok.

However each day this goal should be in your mind somewhere.

Always present to remind you of your promise to yourself.

That’s what your resolutions are after all. A promise you have made to yourself to improve or change your situation.

5. Ask for help.

By all means try this out yourself and see if you can reach your goal on your own. However, if you’ve tried before and it’s not worked or you just want someone to help you – reach out and find someone.

If your goal is health related, find a personal trainer*.

If your goal is business related, find a mentor.

If your goal is lifestyle related, find blogs and books and ideas that can help.

You get the idea.

*You might find my post on finding the right trainer for you helpful here.

In summary, the only person who can reach your goal is you. You are fully in control of the situation and under the right circumstances, with the right help and mindset you can do anything.

Get ready for 2018, go forth and reach your goals.
