you are brave

This is for the brave among you, for those who spent time worrying about getting fitter because it was scary.

you are brave

I went to a yoga class on my own last week for the first time in a while. Something I’m not great at yet.
New people. New instructor. New place. And I had that small pang of anxiety that reminded me of the sickening fear I once felt in those situations.

It’s easy for us fit pros to forget what it’s like to go to the gym for the first time.

Going to a class for the first time.

Contacting a trainer for the first time.

If you’ve spent the majority of your life, like I had, avoiding the gym and avoiding fitness in front of others because you were nervous, this is a big step.
And it’s not easy for everyone.

I hold my hands up to you and admit that before I qualified, for the entirety of my fitness journey, I was too afraid to get help.

I struggled on my own because I wasn’t brave.

It lengthened my journey.

Perhaps thats why I’m so passionate about my job. Why I feel such overwhelming respect to everyone who takes that step to improve their fitness and health.

Before each class I teach I ask if anyone is new – sometimes people put their hands up – sometimes not.

Sometimes the new people hide at the back, scared, nervous, hiding.

I am so with you.

I know you will enjoy it, I know you will be fine, I know that every instructor at the gym will look after you.

But you don’t.

And you do it anyway.

Take this moment to be proud of that.

You are brave.
