A new study has come out that says that diet drinks, like Coke, are better for weight loss than water. A number of studies have been looked at and the conclusion is that if you want to lose weight, diet drinks are the way to go. 

Let’s all go crazy with the flavoured Diet Coke!

Except, no.

Look a little closer and you’ll see that Coca Cola were the funders for this study, interesting then that the outcome favours them, especially when profits at Coke are down. They need more than a topless male model in tight jeans to shift the goods these days.

Amid the calls for the sugar tax in the UK, they are looking at a bleak future, but now suddenly, diet drinks are good for you.

However, I’m sure we all remember the infographic posted on everyone’s Facebook a few months ago, ‘what happens one hour after drinking a Diet Coke’ we’re all aware that this is ridiculous.

You don’t need to pour through endless studies to find correlations between diet drinks and diabetes, increased abdominal fat and increased risk of heart disease before realising that it’s bad for you.

Also, how can anything be better than water?

The lesson here is, whenever you see a post online, or in a paper, or you hear someone talking on the bus about how X thing is BRILLIANT for weight loss remember one thing;

The trick to weight loss doesn’t come in a can, or a powder, or a pill. It comes from

CONSISTENT LIFESTYLE CHANGE.

If X amazing thing is not something that you can do forever, then forget it. The change will not be long lasting.

While the occasional can of diet juice won’t kill you, it will never replace water in my recommendations to clients.

Drink water and use the Diet Coke to clean your toilet.
