Do you hate being told what to do?
Likely to do the opposite if someone else tries to convince you to do something?

Struggle to lose weight because you like to bend/break rules – particularly “diet” rules?

Perhaps this is for you, my fellow rebel…

Slight clarification here, I refer to Rebels in the sense that Gretchen Ruben describes them. She says that we all fall into a dominant category of personality traits and that by figuring out what we are, we can achieve our goals.

Rebels are people who cannot be held accountable to others, or to themselves. They rage against “the man”, break the rules and are described as “stubborn” and sometimes, “immature”.

For us, losing weight can be tricky.

Traditional methods such as partner accountability don’t work – who cares what your gym buddy or trainer will think of you, if you want chocolate cake at 3am you’re gonna have some damnit!!!

Money isn’t a good motivator, ok you paid for the gym but you’ll go tomorrow, you don’t want to go today.

Diets are a terrible idea, you’ll follow the rules to prove that you can until you simply get fed up and decide you don’t want to do that anymore.

^^Sound familiar?

Ok, so lets take all the self-indulgent excuses and put them over there, and discuss the cold hard facts.

Losing weight,
as with everything else in life,
is a choice.

Yes, depending on your background, your job, your social network and your body composition you may feel that you have to lose weight.

But ultimately, the choice and the responsibility to take the appropriate path is yours.

^^^Read this again, cos no-one will come and do it for you.

So lets assume that you really do want to lose weight and it’s not the pressure of someone or something else (this is important to establish by the way, you’ll never get results if you’re losing weight for someone else)

Then you can look at the cold, hard, difficult, annoying but undeniable facts of the matter.

If you want to change, you have to do some work. < —- true story.

If your current lifestyle, diet and mindset gave you the body that you really wanted, you would be there already.

This means making some sacrifices.

lose weight

Yeah, you will need to cut back on your portions a wee bit.
You will need to cut down on the booze a bit (perhaps).
You will need to prioritise some type of activity or movement more regularly than you are now.

Those are actions that will help you.

Here’s something to consider.

Action.

Consequences.

Choice.

You can prioritise a lie in at the weekend and a night of netflix and wine (Action)

This will not lead to a healthier lifestyle if done regularly (Consequences)

Do you really want to do that? Really? (Choice)

This is your moment to take some self-responsibility for your actions and the results of those actions.

One great thing about being a rebel is that once you decide what you want to do – NOTHING and no-one can stop you.

You just need to sit down and figure out if this is what you want. If it is – why wouldn’t you do it?

So, fellow rebel…what do you want?
