working for you

My post today is about whether your plan is working for you, how to know and what to do to fix it if it’s not.

Hows that working for you?

In my experience it’s not something that we often ask ourselves, we get caught up in the process of doing what we’re doing, focusing on whether we’re sticking to the rules or not, whether we could be doing more, working harder or we spend our time googling to find out how long it took other people to reach their goal with this method.

^^ Sound familiar?

What about whether what you’re doing is actually working for you?

So Ainzlie, how do I know if my plan is working?

I’m glad you asked… here are 3 questions to find out if what you’re doing is right for you.

1. Are your results taking you in the right direction?

working for you

If your goal is weight loss – are you losing weight?

If your goal is strength gain – are you getting stronger?

This is the fundamental question to ask. If after a few weeks of following the plan you’re following and you’re not seeing results – it’s not working.

2. Let’s assume you’re seeing results, be honest – how do you feel?
Are you:

Sleeping well?
Energised?
Looking forward to your workouts?
Enjoying the food you’re eating?
Recovering well from workouts?
Good sex drive and regular periods as normal for you, girls?
Sex drive and random erections as normal for you, boys?

If it’s a yes to all of these – fantastic!

Let’s move on.

3. Is your plan sustainable?

Let’s say you’ve been at this now for 3 weeks and you feel amazing, everything is going well.

Can you see yourself still doing this in 3 months time?
Can you see yourself doing some variation of this in 3 years time?

As time passes your plan will change and evolve to fit your new goals but at the base it should be similar to what you’re doing now.

working for you

if you look as angry as this, your plan isn’t sustainable…

Why is this important?

Well, most people who lose weight gain it back within a few years. Some people gain all of it and more besides because they go back to their pre-weight loss lifestyle.

The bottom line here is that your lifestyle dictates how you look and feel. You won’t always need to be in a calorie deficit but you will need to maintain the good habits that you’ve developed in order to see the change.

So what do you do if your plan isn’t working?

Only you will know what works for you. All approaches work for someone which is why we have so many options for weight loss.

A calorie deficit will help you lose weight, how you do that is up to you but you need to find something that is easy for you to do.

So ask yourself,

What foods do I like?
Does this plan fit into my schedule?
Is this plan healthy for me?

Only when you get real about what you are actually able to do consistently and sustainably will you find an approach that works for you.
