I’ve seen the advert this week for weight watchers, if you join up and lose 10lbs in your first 8 weeks then you get your money back.

Woohoo!!!

Let’s all sign up, right?

Maybe not.

As a business owner, I know that this is one way to get clients through the door, but it raises one question in my mind;

“If you have to bribe people to join up, is your service good enough?”

Weight watchers, like any diet company relies on

A) people with a lot of weight to lose
B) referrals
C) repeat business

Surely the reputation of the company should be enough to get people in the door?

This promotion however draws the attention of people who had decided against joining up yet again

But suddenly, a way to lose weight and be held accountable

AND

get your money back?!

Well, sign me right up.

The truth is, and anyone who has ever lost weight can tell you this.

The first 10lb loss after Christmas is, for most, the easiest 10lbs you will ever lose.

Chances are you ate more over Christmas
More sugar
More sweets
More alcohol

You probably moved less too
Less exercise
No work
Spending time with family watching tv

All of these behaviours lead to a bit of holiday weight gain.

Suddenly the new year has started and everyone is full of motivation
There are pictures of toned, fit women all over Instagram
This is your year to lose weight.

Once you get back into your routine and you consciously start to eat a little better
move a little more
get back to normal

You will notice some weight loss.

If you couple that with the high motivation and social support via social media, you’ll experience quicker weight loss.

Weight watchers knows this.

All these changes add up to losing serious water weight, possibly up to 10lbs. Although you are likely to lose a bit of body fat too, it probably won’t be a full 10lbs of fat loss.

But you’ll look thinner
You’ll be lighter
You’ll have reached your ‘weight’ goal.

Now, for month two you get to pay full price for every pound you lose.
Month two typically being a bit slower with the weight loss.

Suddenly, they have you.

Does this mean you shouldn’t go to weight watchers?

That, my friend, is up to you.

What I can tell you is that for me and my business my clients see results, not because I give them their money back
but because I help them, support them and give them my energy and motivation
Especially when they struggle to find the motivation themselves

They see weight loss each month
Inch loss
Strength gain
Increased confidence
Increased happiness

They don’t pay me for weight loss

They pay me for change

If you want to break the system and get your money back for your first 10lb weight loss then weight watchers is for you.

If you want a personalised plan with a trainer who understands your situation and works with you to change it, then perhaps personal training is for you.

Before you decide,
ask yourself this…

Do you want a diet company that will reward you after weight loss?

Or do you want a personal trainer who will make your weight loss more rewarding?

Up to you.
