Struggling to stay fit during lockdown? There are a lot of places, and trainers, doing online workouts and classes to help you stay fit. But what if you want more? Let’s look at online personal training during lockdown.

When people think of personal training they think of being physically with someone in a gym setting, a trainer counting reps for you and that’s pretty much it. That is the “training” part of it, but let’s look at the “personal” side of things.

A personal trainer adjusts for your circumstances

Just like sex, a good session is all about communication. Your PT will know how you’re feeling that day, if you’re tired, low, stressed etc. If you slept badly and now your hip hurts they will know how to help you.

If you’re on your period, on top of all this other lockdown crap, they should know how to adjust your session to ease cramps, back pain and fatigue.

This means you can still workout on days where you wouldn’t if you were on your own. Your PT can keep you moving no matter what obstacles are in the way.

A personal trainer gives you accountability

Most of us now have very little structure to our days. Even if we work from home the usual routine is different. The commute is now from your bed to your new work space (in a city centre flat, that might also be your bedroom).

If you have a session on *this day* at *this time* you will be there. Without a defined time to workout, often we push it to the end of the day and it doesn’t get done.

Here is where I break down what I’m doing to help my clients with personal training during lockdown, making your sessions personal and safe.

You have two options now to keep active while being a client of mine.

Full Support

This service replicates what you experience in the gym with me face to face.
•A personalised workout based on your own body via an online assessment.
•Weekly 1-2-1 live sessions via Zoom or Skype where we “meet” and workout.
•Changes to your programme as you get fitter to ensure you’re always making progress.

This services is the best and most personal experience you can get. Especially if you hired someone to be with you while you workout, this is the only way we can get together right now.

Independent training

Option two involves a more independent service. You get:
•A personalised workout based on your own body.
•A weekly skype check in to see how things are going.
•Send me video updates to check form and receive feedback on those.
•Updates on your programme to ensure you’re always making progress.

This is good for people who don’t want the 1-2-1 during the workout but still want to check in and make sure their programme is safe and effective for them.

In Summary:

Moving is important to our health, mental and physical and however you do that is up to you. Whatever helps you keep you committed to daily activity.

However you want to stay active one thing is for sure, lockdown is hard and staying active will help with your mental health as well.

This also won’t last forever, and while we don’t all need to have focused fitness goals that see us entering the gym looking like super heroes, let’s get back into the real world feeling fit and healthy.
