Weight loss during lockdown

Are you worried about gaining weight during lockdown? Worried about eating too much and losing the progress you were seeing? Let’s talk about weight loss during lockdown.

Weight loss during lockdown?

I want to address something straight away. I’m seeing and hearing a lot of people commenting about the foods they’re eating, the weight they’re worried of gaining and couple that with Easter when we’re surrounded by chocolate, it seems a recipe for guilt.

I’m here to tell you something that you need to know

Now is not the time for weight loss.

^^^ read that, take it in, believe it.

Weight loss during lockdown

You might think that as a trainer I should be encouraging you to focus on weight loss and working out cos now you have the time to really work on that goal #GAINZBRO

But honestly, this is not the time for that.

We are going through a very stressful time and the last thing you need is something else to cause you stress, restriction and unhappiness.

(If you are losing weight, enjoying it and seeing results, fantastic! This blog isn’t for you)

But Ainzlie, I don’t want to gain weight

I understand if you are worried about weight gain, especially if you read my blog and others like it. Health and fitness and looking a certain way are important to you and it’s a big part of your life, potentially.

But let’s get real, a stressful difficult environment is not the best time to try and lose weight. In fact, it’s one of the worst times. You’re only fighting your body and making yourself feel bad. There are however other things you can focus on that will help you stay on track.

1. Slow down

We all eat too quickly as it is, this will be happening more now as we eat while watching Netflix or mindlessly snacking while we talk to friends online. Eating too quickly and without paying attention means we don’t enjoy what we’re eating and might not even remember that we ate anything.

2. Eat to 80% full

This one is a biggie and it’s something we often struggle to do. Especially when food tastes nice, when we eat it too quickly or when we are distracted.

You are probably aware that it takes around 20minutes to feel full after a meal, if you eat until you feel full, you have eaten too much.

3. Plan your meals

This is even more important now, we need to be mindful about not going out too often so planning meals in advance means less trips to the shop and also knowing what you’re having for the day can help us to plan for snacks and treats.

These three strategies are something to work on during this time to help you stay healthy, focused on what you’re having without being obsessive and increases the mindfulness when you’re eating.

I can help

I’m not focusing on weight loss with my clients at the moment, I’m not stressing about it myself. If you want a diet plan there are other trainers who will help you right now.

What I’m offering is coaching with these strategies to help you stay healthy during lockdown.

You can find out more about that here

In summary

Focus on what you can control easily without stress. How much you eat, the speed at which you eat and the types of foods that you eat. Now isn’t the time to focus on a stressful diet.

Stay safe.
